Why are my classmates dropping out like flies??

Im a first year nursing student and when I first started there, were about 40 students in my class. It sems as if the first week 2 people dropped out. Now 3 other people just stopped going out of the blue!!! I also know another girl in nursing school that seems to have the same thing going on at her school.

Why is it that EVERYONE is leaving?????

Why are my classmates dropping out like flies??
Don't be alarmed. This happens a LOT.

Not just in nursing school, but in college in general. My grad program was very selective and after 2 years exactly half ended up dropping out. I think this is standard.

Just be sure you are one that stays.
Reply:Sloth. Thank God they dropped out. I would prefer to have someone like you take care of me when I am old.
Reply:if you can't take the heat gett out of the kitchen. Maybe their not up for the challenge.
Reply:They were probably not passing the class and dropped it asap so that they would not get a Fail on their final grade. Many of my friends have done this but it isn't a good idea because if you want to transfer to another school, they will see the amount of times you have dropped from a class.

There are many other reasons too: money, time, depression, pressure, change of career..etc. It happens all the time!

Good Luck with your career.. I wanted to be a Doctor but changed my mind. Now I want to do Business Management (International),

accounting, and real estate. You're doing fine, continue your good work; it will pay off.
Reply:A) It's not what they expected the field to be. Mostly the case with younger students who have stereotyped or unrealistic views of a field.

B) Student is not academically ready to tackle demanding coursework in higher education (particularly older students who have been out of school a long time)

C) Life/family pressures; particularly older students again, as they often have full time jobs so school is second priority. If you can't devote enough time to study you are going to end up failing, regardless of the subject.
Reply:A lot of people don't realise what nursing is actually like..so when they find out, they decide they don't want to do it anymore.
Reply:It was too difficult for them, they gave up, or they realized it is not what they wanted to do. I was SURE I was going to be a nurse someday...until I worked in a nursing home and got real world experience with my 'future' career. Maybe your classmates have gotten a taste of nursing and they don't like it.
Reply:maybe their not interested
Reply:A lot of college students are stupid, so maybe some of them cannot handle the course work, some of them might be lazy and a few others may simply find the class boring and decide not to show up for lectures. You'll notice often times that on exam days the class size doubles in college because participation and attendance in lecture classes is not always necessary especially in first year classes. Another reason for a few of the drop outs could be personally, financial or simply that they've decided nursing isn't what they want to do. The problem with pressuring 17 and 18 year olds to start college and a career path directly after high school is that most are not ready to dedicate themselves to an area of study, thus the reason that so many change their majors at least once or twice before graduation and the reason that many drop out or take time off schooling. Remember, college isn't for everyone and isn't the only path to success.
Reply:People leave or "withdraw" from class for various reasons. Maybe they don't like the teacher, or maybe they've overloaded themselves with too many classes for the semester and plan to take it next semester.. As you continue you academic career you'll continue to see this pattern..
Reply:Because it is extremely difficult: stressful, and hard cirriculum. That is the way it goes in Nursing school-many people don't last. But aren't we lucky the best ones make it and the others don't.
Reply:stress or just cant handle it but dont mind them keep in mind your goals and your goals only.
Reply:Because they have their own reasons for leaving the class. Just let it go. Just focus on your own thing.
Reply:The reality did not match their expectations.
Reply:well princess, there is probably a ton of pressure on them to do well in nursing, possibly trying to follow a family trend, or they're just getting lazy or finding that the increasing amount of work is just getting too hard to follow and way to difficult.

all you have to do is keep you mind on what YOU'RE doing.

you want to be a nurse, i assume :P, so keep that dream. don't let other people dropping out distract you. yes you can worry but don't get too caught up in it...

best of luck in your future career.
Reply:because they are too pressured or stressed. hang in there. trust me its all worth it in the end. college is sooo much fun
