Why did my classmates laugh when we watched the movie The Patriot?

Today in class we watched the movie The Patriot, in the scenes when the canons shot OUR soldiers head off, and our soldiers legs off, they all laughed and cheered...

I mean I know it is Hollywood and fake effects, but thats real stuff, OUR AMERICAN SOLDIERS!!! Who fought for this country, it is resembling stuff that really happened, in real life, American soldiers wrote in their journals "The guy next to me had his head blown off by a canon ball" or something along the lines of that.

It truly makes me sick...

Just make sure you take your medication as prescribed.
Reply:Rather laugh then cry. It is human nature to feel smug about other peoples misfortune. Haven't you ever laughed when someone falls over in a really embarassing way without knowing whether they have hurt theirselves?
Reply:That is sick. Apparently, they don't have a true understanding of what they are watching. Kids often cannot connect the reality that the movies are based off of.
Reply:If The Patriot had any sort of historical integrity, that would be bad behaviour.

"I know, right? For all they know one of those actors, playing one of the soldiers could have been based off of an exact ancestor..."

Who also probably committed horrible acts not portrayed in the movie. What's your point?

Not everyone on this forum is American, juniour. Settle down. Pardon me for not sympathising with people who beat the **** out of Africans and brought them over to your country to pick cotton.
Reply:We have become desensitized to this due to the amount of violence in the world and TV. They are not looking at it like it was a solider. they are looking at the special effects and the entertainment value of it. Like i laugh at scary movies.
Reply:Honestly, you don't really expect American students in general to understand that historical events were not in fact fiction produced for their consumption, rather that they were real events occuring to actual people some of whom might have been their ancestors. Agreed the level of ignorance in this country is sickening. Although I wonder if there is even a remote level of historical value to that film. Whatever, reaches the masses I suppose...
Reply:Cause they are simply not as mature as yourself to understand the levity of what they are watching. Immaturity is the reason alot of people do silly things.
