How do I help my classmates speak in english?

what are some techniques? or at least to hhelp myself speak in english all the time... no answers like that I shouldnt force them to speak in english or whatever please..





im asking this because our teacher are asking us to make an oratory that would discuss how others could speak english more proficiently...

How do I help my classmates speak in english?
First of all, motivation. You will never get anyone to do something if you don't tell them a reason to. Find some reasons why they should speak in English and not in their native language (if it's not English, I suppose). They also have to see that YOU are motivated to speak that language. What's the sense then trying to let them speak in a language you're not keen on? Then find a common topic that is generally well accepted by your classmates (teachers would go for REVOLUTIONS or HISTORY or some other boring topic, why not choose MUSIC? or even a certain TV program most of you guys watch? why not even celebrities? something near to your heart, something you'll feel to talk about. In this case, no one can say I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY) and talk about it, everyone sharing their ideas and opinions about it, WITHOUT USING ANY OTHER LANGUAGE. Who uses another language is penalized, make it as a game, who doesn't love games? Make it entertaining, so that in the end it won't seem to be in a classroom anymore, but something among friends.

Reply:Speak in simple sentences. Ask them simple questions about themselves. Help them to fill in words which they don't know exactly how to express in English. Ask them to repeat those "new" words back to you. Always praise them lavishly for making the effort to speak English. You will have good friends for life!
