What happened to shinji's classmates after episode 22 of evangelion??

i'm just wondering, did they all die after rei self destruct her EVA unit? or everyone just evacuated tokyo 3?? i'm confused.. everyone suddenly disappeared... can someone answer this question...

What happened to shinji's classmates after episode 22 of evangelion??
The pictures in the previews seem to show that Rei's EVA-00 self-destructed outside the city, so the classmates were most likely not killed (the explosion did detroy a dam and let a lake or the ocean flood Tokyo-3).





Also, in episode 24 (when Kaouru arrives) or in End of Evangelion -- I can't currently remember which -- Shinji mentions that his class has been moved away from the city (since it's flooded). Add to this that Shinji isn't wracked with guilt or sadness over their deaths, which he would be, so it seems pretty obvious to me that they all survived EVA-00's destruction, but were evacuated out of the city. They probably ended up being consumed by Human Instrumentality in the movie.
